Flamenco performance Voces del Sur at Raritan Valley Community College Theatre
Join Wellesley alumnae, family and friends at 11:30 for an extensive brunch at Stoney Brook Grille. Then a quick drive to The RVCC Theatre for the 2 p.m. performance of Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana – Voces del Sur, followed by a “talk-back” with some performers. Program: Mujeres Valientes, a contemporary flamenco about two Latin American women who were groundbreakers in fighting for the defense of women’s rights and individuality, and several traditional flamenco solos, duets and company numbers. Voces del Sur, a glimpse into southern spanish Andalucía known as “the cradle of flamenco”, which over centuries had Arabic, Gypsy, Sephardic Jewish, and Latino influences, fostering rich arts. From these many “voces” (voices), Flamenco Vivo’s dancers and musicians create a tapestry of the unique, diverse culture of Andalucía, and the greater Hispanic/Latino people, the other “Sur”- South America.
